Episode Highlights

Highlights from Episode 012:
  • The more you work, the more you spend. The cost of working can quickly add up. These cost include commuting costs, buying lunch out to work, and relying on convenience to help you maintain your sanity while working demanding hours.
  • We can enjoy financial freedom right here and now. It’s a mistake to work ourselves to the bone and make ourselves miserable in the present so that we can stack money for a mythical retirement that’s years away.
  • It’s ok to go slow. There is beauty in the embracing the concept of SlowFI.  Financial independence doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing proposition. Although a less glamorized concept, semi-retirement can provide the best of both worlds.
  • Scaling back to an indefinitely part-time work schedule has allowed me to blossom creatively.  I’ve inadvertently stumbled into starting my own business and finding creative ways to earn money without trading all of my time for dollars.

  • It’s totally possible to achieve financial independence without sacrificing your present in order to do so. Take advantage of incremental financial progress so that you can achieve degrees of freedom along the way.
